Sri Chaitanya MAhaprabhu
Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is an incarnation of the Lord Sri Krishna, who descended in this age of hypocrisy and discord (Kaliyuga) in the form of His perfect devotee to teach the world how to awaken pure love for Himself, Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
This has been established based on the direct testimonies of great personalities, his contemporaries, and on numerous references and quotations, hidden or explicit, in various holy scriptures of Vaishnavism, such as the Brahama-yamala, the Krsna-yamala or the Mundaka Upanisad and others.
He appeared in India, in the city of Nabadwip, in West Bengal, in the year 1486 AD. In his youth, he immediately demonstrated great erudition and profound

knowledge of the conclusions of the Vedas (Sacred Scriptures). After the premature passing of his young first wife, Lakshmipriya, he married again with Vishnupriya. At the age of 24, he already felt a strong desire within himself to dedicate himself completely to spreading his message throughout India and decided to take the vows of the renounced order, the sannyasi.
With the name Krishna Chaitanya he preached in various pilgrimage places and finally settled in Jagannatha Puri, where he performed numerous transcendental pastimes. He left this material plane at the age of 48.
Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu left as written teaching only 8 verses, known as Siksastaka, but his disciples and their successors have compiled a vast literature that has become an integral and fundamental part of the disciplic succession to which our Master belongs, Swami Ban Maharaj, that is, the Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya-Sampradaya.
The golden incarnation of the Lord, as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is also called, due to the color of his complexion, descended to establish the yuga-dharma, the religious method prescribed for the current age, where hypocrisy and discord reign and spiritual qualities in humanity have greatly degraded.
This simple method shows us that anyone can make progress on the spiritual path and attain transcendental consciousness, Krishna consciousness, by chanting the Maha-mantra, the great chant of liberation:
Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.
By pronouncing, reciting, or singing this transcendental vibration, alone or in a group, we can remove all fears and anxieties from the heart and rediscover our true spiritual nature, made of eternity, happiness, and knowledge.
This Maha-mantra is composed of the names of the Lord: Hari, Krishna, and Rama and is an invocation to obtain service at the lotus feet of the Supreme Lord, Sri Krishna. That is, it is a request for transcendental love, which is achieved through devotional, selfless, and uninterrupted service (Bhakti-yoga).
From a philosophical and theological point of view, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu introduced an important concept in the development of the personal understanding of the Absolute Truth, called acintya-bhedābheda-tattva, that is, that God is, inconceivably and simultaneously, One and different from His energies.
The Supreme Lord has three main energies: the internal or spiritual one, the external or material one, and the marginal one, made up of living beings (souls or jiva) who, depending on their consciousness, can be under the influence of the first or the second energy. Like the sun and its radiance, the energies of the Supreme Lord are identical to their origin and at the same time different from Him. It follows that even the vibration that produces His Holy Name, Krishna, is not different from Him.
During his stay on this Earth, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu challenged and converted many scholars of the Vedas who, to achieve their own ends, claimed that the "impersonal" aspect of God is the preeminent one. He demonstrated, through a direct and genuine reading of the Holy Scriptures that if every living being has its own individuality, with peculiar characteristics and is an infinitesimal part of the Supreme Whole, it is not possible that their Source, the Whole from which they emanate and to which they belong, is impersonal, that is, without attributes and qualities!
The Whole is the Supreme and Absolute Person, Cause of all causes, and must possess qualities such as beauty, wealth, fame, power, wisdom, and renunciation. Being the Supreme Absolute, He possesses these qualities in a complete and perfect way and therefore, ultimately, attracts the love of every being!
He recognized in the Shrimad Bhagavatam the perfect Scripture, which leads to the knowledge of the Supreme Personality of Lord Krishna. He taught that the ultimate goal of existence is to develop prema, pure love for God, and established, based on what is contained in the Shrimad Bhagavatam, that the highest form of worship of the Lord is that of the cowherd girls (gopis) of Vrindavana, manifested through their pure love for Krishna.
Moreover, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is remembered because he victoriously organized one of the first mass movements of non-violent civil disobedience in Indian history to challenge the oppression of the Muslim governors who prevented the performance of congregational chanting of the holy names of the Lord (Sankirtan) in public streets.
His revolutionary contribution also had great sociological importance because with His vision He eliminated the stereotyped restrictions of the hereditary caste system. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu dedicated His preaching to all people, considered in their spiritual substance (the soul), mercifully practicing forgiveness, considering it superior to the mere application of the precepts of justice and equity.
